Coloured Contact Lenses

Whether you want to subtly enhance your natural eye colour or make a bold change, coloured contact lenses let you do it safely and comfortably. At BuyContactsOnline.com.au, we stock a curated range of coloured lenses from trusted, established brands — available with or without prescription correction, and sourced exclusively from authorised Australian distributors.

Every lens in this collection is 100% genuine, TGA-registered, and manufactured to the same quality standards as any other contact lens. Coloured contact lenses are medical devices, and we treat them as such.

Understanding the Different Types of Coloured Contact Lenses

Not all coloured contact lenses work the same way. Before choosing a lens, it's worth understanding the three main approaches to colour:

Enhancement tints subtly deepen or define your natural eye colour without dramatically changing it. They work with what you already have, adding depth and a more defined iris edge. These are ideal for lighter eyes where the natural colour can show through the tint.

Opaque colour lenses fully cover the natural iris colour and replace it with a new shade entirely. These are the right choice for anyone wanting a more dramatic change, or for those with darker eyes where enhancement tints may not show up clearly.

Limbal ring lenses feature a dark outer ring that defines the edge of the iris, creating a wider, more defined eye appearance. The Acuvue Define range uses this design approach for a naturally striking but wearable effect.

Understanding which type suits your look — and your eyes — is the first step to finding the right coloured lens.

Our Coloured Contact Lens Range

Acuvue Define — Natural Enhancement Lenses

The 1 Day Acuvue Define range takes a different approach to colour. Rather than overlaying a new shade, these daily disposable lenses are designed to enhance the natural beauty of your eye by adding definition and depth — the effect is more like the best version of your own eyes than a dramatic colour transformation.

Three styles are available:

  • Accent Style adds a bold, dark outer ring to create a more defined iris edge — a subtle but striking enhancement.
  • Natural Shine uses a multi-tonal design with a soft outer ring to add dimension and luminosity, ideal for a natural yet refined look.
  • Vivid Style deepens the warmth of your eye colour with a rich brown-toned design, creating a vibrant, wide-eyed effect.

All three are available as 30-pack daily disposables — fresh every day, no cleaning required — and come with LACREON moisture technology for all-day comfort. They are available in prescription powers for vision correction wearers.

Air Optix Colours — Full Colour Change

Air Optix Colours is the brand of choice for anyone wanting a genuine, noticeable change in eye colour. Built on the Air Optix silicone hydrogel platform, these monthly lenses use a 3-in-1 colour technology that blends three different colour elements to create a realistic, multi-dimensional iris appearance — the effect looks natural rather than flat or artificial.

Available in a wide range of shades including Hazel, Blue, Green, Gray, Brown, Honey, Brilliant Blue, Gemstone Green, Sterling Gray, True Sapphire, Amethyst, and Turquoise.

Two versions are available: Air Optix Colours Plano (no vision correction, for wearers with healthy vision who want purely cosmetic colour change) and Air Optix Colours Script (with prescription correction for wearers who also need vision correction). Both come in a 2-pack, the standard pack size for monthly lenses.

Freshlook — Everyday Colour for Every Budget

The Freshlook range from Alcon offers two formats to suit different wearing habits:

Freshlook ONE-DAY is a daily disposable coloured lens available in Grey, Pure Hazel, Green, and Blue. A 10-pack is ideal for occasional or event-based wear — perfect if you want to try a new colour for a special occasion without committing to a full box. These lenses are designed for subtle enhancement on both light and dark eyes.

Freshlook Colorblends is a fortnightly replacement lens featuring 3-in-1 technology that blends three colours into one lens for a more natural-looking depth. Available in an extensive shade range including True Sapphire, Blue, Green, Brown, Gray, Pure Hazel, Honey, Turquoise, Brilliant Blue, Gemstone Green, and Sterling Gray. The Colorblends design is particularly well regarded for dark eyes, as the technology creates enough opacity to show colour on deeper iris shades. Comes in a 6-pack.

With Prescription or Without?

One important consideration: you can wear coloured contact lenses whether or not you need vision correction.

If you have a prescription for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, you'll need to order coloured lenses in your correct prescription power. Many coloured lenses — including all Acuvue Define styles and Air Optix Colours Script — are available with prescription correction, so you don't have to choose between clear vision and great-looking eyes.

If your vision doesn't require correction, Plano (zero-power) coloured lenses are the right choice. Air Optix Colours Plano and Freshlook ONE-DAY are both available as Plano lenses.

Important: In Australia, all contact lenses — including cosmetic and Plano coloured lenses — are classified as medical devices and require a valid contact lens prescription from a registered optometrist to purchase. This applies even when there is no vision correction involved. If you don't have a current prescription, our partner optometrist Peter Merrett can help — call 03 9510 2045 or email contacts@buycontactsonline.com.au during business hours.

Caring for Your Coloured Contact Lenses

Coloured contact lenses require exactly the same care and hygiene as any other contact lens. Daily disposable lenses (Acuvue Define, Freshlook ONE-DAY) are discarded after each use — no cleaning or storage required. Monthly and fortnightly lenses (Air Optix Colours, Freshlook Colorblends) need to be cleaned and stored in fresh solution each night using a recommended multipurpose solution, and replaced on schedule.

Never share contact lenses with another person, and always wash your hands before handling lenses. If you experience any discomfort, redness, or unusual vision changes, remove your lenses and consult an optometrist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription to buy coloured contact lenses in Australia?

Yes. All contact lenses — including cosmetic and non-corrective Plano lenses — are classified as medical devices in Australia and require a valid prescription from a registered optometrist to purchase. This is a regulatory requirement, not just a retailer policy, and it applies regardless of whether the lens has any vision correction power.

Can I wear coloured contacts if I have a prescription for myopia or astigmatism?

Yes, in many cases. Acuvue Define and Air Optix Colours Script are available with prescription correction for myopia and hyperopia. If you have astigmatism, options are more limited — speak with your optometrist about what's available for your prescription. Call us on 03 9510 2045 and our team can advise what's in stock for your specific needs.

What's the difference between Acuvue Define and Air Optix Colours?

Acuvue Define lenses enhance your natural eye colour by adding definition and depth — they're designed to make your own eyes look more beautiful, not to change them dramatically. Air Optix Colours provides a more noticeable colour change using opaque colour technology that replaces the appearance of your iris with a chosen shade. The right choice depends on whether you want enhancement or transformation.

Can people with dark eyes wear coloured contact lenses?

Yes. Air Optix Colours and Freshlook Colorblends are both suitable for dark eyes — their opaque colour technology is designed to show up on darker iris shades. Enhancement-style lenses like Acuvue Define may be less dramatic on very dark eyes, as they work with the natural colour rather than covering it.

How quickly will my coloured lenses arrive?

Orders placed before 10am Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day via StarTrack Courier Service. Metro customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra typically receive their order the next business day. Regional delivery is generally 2–7 business days.
